The General Union of Algerian Workers yesterday held a gathering in support of and solidarity with Palestine and calling for lifting the siege on Gaza.

According to Anadolu, the gathering was organised in cooperation between the General Union of Algerian Workers and the Palestine Reconstruction Foundation.

Hundreds of Algerian people and unionists along with Palestinian Ambassador to Algiers Fayez Abu Aita attended the gathering.

Amar Takdjout, head of the General Union of Algerian Workers, said the bloc “has been supporting Palestine since independence and will continue supporting it until the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza is lifted and all Palestinian people get their freedom.”

The General Union of Algerian Workers is the oldest and largest union in the country, and it has about 2.3 million members.

Israel has imposed a stifling siege on the Gaza Strip since 2006 and has carried out several wide-scale wars that claimed thousands of lives and wounded tens of thousands in addition to causing unprecedented damage to residential buildings and infrastructure.
