Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a telephone call on Wednesday from German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordination on issues of mutual interest, especially Sudan.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the two ministers stressed during the call the keenness of Cairo and Berlin to strengthen and upgrade bilateral relations in various fields.

They also praised the momentum witnessed by the economic cooperation between the two countries, stressing the importance of continuing to develop this cooperation in order to achieve the interests of the two countries. Minister Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis, and its demand from the first day on the need to reach an immediate and sustainable ceasefire.

In this context, Minister Shoukry stressed the importance of dialogue to resolve differences in Sudan, stressing the highest priority that Egypt attaches to the security and safety of the Sudanese people.

He explained that Egypt has been keen since the beginning of the crisis to welcome the Sudanese brothers in Egypt, and to support the border crossings with medical, relief and humanitarian teams and equipment necessary to provide support to Sudanese expatriates.

On the other hand, the call touched upon the deteriorating security conditions in the Occupied Palestinian territories, especially after the Israeli attack against the city and the Jenin camp.

The Foreign Minister expressed Egypt’s deep concern about the continuation of Israeli violations and attacks on Palestinian rights, stressing the need for the international community, especially the internationally influential countries, to shoulder its responsibility in stopping the existing cycle of violence and providing protection to the Palestinian people.

At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue communication and consultation on regional developments, and to work together to resolve the Sudanese crisis and calm the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
