By India Today News Desk: Anil Antony, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday, on Saturday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his acronym tweet linking ex-Congress leaders to billionaire businessman, Gautam Adani.
Taking to Twitter, former Congress leader Anil Antony said that it was sad to see a former President of a national party, a “so-called PM candidate of the Congress” speak like a social media troll and not like a national leader.
He further added that he (Anil) had to leave the Congress party, as he and the mentioned “tall stalwarts” in Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, preferred to work for India and their people and not for a family.
Anil Antony ran the Congress’s social media cell in Kerala before he left the party following the row over the BBC documentary. Opposing the documentary, Anil Antony had said that placing the views of the British broadcaster over Indian institutions would “undermine” the country’s sovereignty.
In a first ever reaction to leaders quitting the Congress, Rahul Gandhi put out a tweet earlier today linking them to Gautam Adani, who has been attack from the Congress and other opposition parties over allegations of stock manipulation.
“They hide the truth, that’s why they are misled every day! The question remains the same – who does the Rs 20,000 crore of benami money in Adani’s companies belong to?” he tweeted, along with the names of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiran Reddy, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Anil Antony – who were once related to the Congress but are now either with the BJP or has his own party.
