Rabat – Global payments technology company Mastercard has unveiled Apple Pay as a new payment option for its customers in Morocco.

Customers in Morocco can now enjoy the convenience of making contactless payments by simply holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near a payment terminal, indicated a press release.

This payment method offers enhanced security and privacy, allowing users to make payments without physical interaction or the need to exchange cash, added the statement

It explained that each transaction is fortified with layers of security, including authentication through Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, alongside a dynamic security code.

Apple Pay’s reach extends to a wide range of establishments, including grocery stores, restaurants, retail outlets, and pharmacies, among others. This payment method is poised to reshape the payment landscape in the country.

Bassem Gharsalli, Vice President and Country Manager for Northwest Africa at Mastercard, expressed enthusiasm about expanding contactless payments to customers in Morocco.

He underlined that “Apple Pay blends convenience with peace of mind providing more choice and making secure digital payments more accessible for more people across the country.”

Beyond in-store transactions, Apple Pay promises to enhance the shopping experience in digital realms as well.

Users can use Apple Pay on their iPhone, iPad, and Mac to expedite purchases within apps or on Safari. This eliminates the need for repetitive data entry, smoothing processes like online shopping, food deliveries, and transportation payments.

Notably, Apple Watch users can also make app-based payments using Apple Pay.

The statement stressed that uncompromising security and privacy are paramount in Apple Pay’s design. The service ensures that actual card numbers are not stored on the device or Apple servers.

Instead, a unique Device Account Number is generated, encrypted, and securely housed in the Secure Element, a certified chip that safeguards payment information within the device.
