Morocco has been very present at the 5th edition of the Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics in Africa and the Middle East Forum and Fair (TransMEA 2023), held in Cairo with the participation of 350 companies representing 50 countries. The Moroccan Kingdom was represented at this event by a high-level delegation headed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and including senior officials from the Ministry and the institutions and public companies concerned.
With a view to strengthening the partnership between the two countries, the Moroccan Minister of Transport, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and his Egyptian counterpart, Kamel al-Wazir, signed a series of bilateral cooperation agreements in the transport sector.
The first agreement is a memorandum of understanding focused on road safety, with the aim of consolidating scientific research, strengthening existing competencies and facilitating the exchange of experiences between Morocco and Egypt. The same memorandum also aims to establish close partnerships in critical areas such as road safety management, strategy formulation and capacity building.
The second agreement focuses on the railway sector, providing a comprehensive framework for bilateral cooperation; thus Morocco and Egypt commit to take constructive steps to intensify discussions on shared concerns regarding rail transport.
The partnership covers a wide range of facets of the railway ecosystem, including network expansion, rolling stock, railway engineering, signalling and strengthening management systems.
The last agreement consists of another memorandum of understanding concerning the mutual recognition of crew certificates in maritime transport. In this respect, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Arab Republic of Egypt are committed to implementing the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping, which aims to improve the safety and efficiency of maritime transport between the two countries.
It is worth noting that the signed agreements have underlined Morocco and Egypt’s objectives to expand their partnership in the fields of transport, road safety, rail transport and maritime logistics.
For both the Egyptian and Moroccan representatives, the TransMEA2023 Forum represents a meeting for exchanges of expertise and visions between senior decision-makers in the world’s transport sector, and an opportunity to strengthen cooperation, exchange knowledge and best practices, as well as research the latest technologies and innovations in this vital sector.
