Her involvement was confirmed during a recent gathering of potential participants.

The Festival team has said it is “grateful” to Penelope Knatchbull, Countess Mountbatten, for showing her support for the “cultural highlight” in Romsey’s diary.

Organisers say the Festival programme is coming together and promises to be an exciting blend of music, song, history, and “fascinating” exhibitions and activities. Many community groups have already committed to taking part.

The Abbey will feature as a music venue, an exhibition hall for a Romsey Quilters Exhibition, and a display by Hampshire Calligraphers of their talent.

Whether it is bell ringing and mechanicals in Lockerley, family environmental walks around Romsey, Youth Theatre in the Green Room at The Plaza, La Ronde open gardens, or pulling levers at Romsey Signal Box, Romsey Festival 2023 promised to have something for all your family.

Liz Wagner, chair of festival 2023, said: “We are delighted that The Countess Mountbatten of Burma has joined us as our Patron. Romsey Festival 2023 is very much about showcasing the incredible cultural strength of Romsey and District and we will enjoy sharing events with the Countess.”

The festival, which will take place in the first two weeks of July 2023, continues as a key feature of cultural activities in Test Valley.
